VISCERAL MANIPULATION
What is Visceral Manipulation?
It is a manual therapy, using light, gentle, and very specifically placement of manual forces that facilitate the normal mobility, tone, and inherent tissue motion of the viscera and the surrounding connective tissues. The manipulations have the potential to affect "normal physiological function" of the individual organs, the systems that the organs function within, and the structural integrity of the whole body.
There are five systems that affect the mobility of the internal organs:
- Central Nervous System: regulates motor function
- Autonomic Nervous System: regulates diaphragmatic activity, cardiovascular activity, and peristaltic activity (to name a few)
- CranioSacral Rhythm
- Lymphatic System
- Motility: a cellular rise and fall, based on embryology that is inherent to the organ itself.
Conditions that May Benefit from Visceral Manipulation:
- Adhesions
- Chronic tension
- Altered axes of motion within the body
